Description
Food Cultures (CUBO) is a public engagement project funded by the University of Turin that involves researchers from 19 departments working at different levels on food-related issues. Specifically, the multiple initiatives proposed by CUBO are developed from 4 pillars fundamental to our research:

  • Welfare (human, animal, environmental, social),
  • Sustainability (environmental, social, technological, health, economic),
  • History and Culture (visual arts, spoken and written language, archaeology, history, literature, religions),
  • Economic and Legal Sciences (law, norms and protections, food numbers and geography).

Objectives: Promote awareness about food, disseminate multidisciplinary knowledge, support sustainability, provide spaces for dialogue and participation, create a communication channel between citizens, disseminate and engage.

DSCB role: the department will be involved in the projects listed below.

  • “Eat That Passes You By,” an initiative with Prof. Maria Pia Gallo as the contact person, implemented by a collaboration between DSCB, the Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology, the Department of Medical Sciences, and with the support of partners Biosfered srl and the Italian Society of Human Nutrition (SINU). The project includes rounds of meetings on the macro-topic “diet and human health.”
  • “Vegan Life, Vegetarian Life: Past and Present of an Individual and Collective Choice,” an initiative with Dr. Veronica Ghirardi as the contact person, implemented by a collaboration between DSCB, the Department of Humanities, Department of Philosophy and Educational Sciences, Department of Historical Studies, Department of Veterinary Sciences
  • “I'm Hungry!”, an initiative with Dr. Daniela Rossin as the contact person, proposed through the Ce.Se.Di catalog to the Preschools and Primary Schools of the city of Turin, maximum 3 events total and each event will consist of 3 meetings of about two hours each
  • Evening dissemination activities through the “Researchers at the Thorn” format within Phase 3 of the CUBO project (the fun)

Project program:

  • Kick-off meeting on September 22, 2024 at the Neighborhood House in San Salvario (Turin)
  • Researchers' night on September 27, 2024 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Future appointments are being finalized
